Hiya CopyStar!

In my last email I shared 3 of my 5 favorite similarities between copywriting and country living!
In case you missed it – click here.
Today – I’m giving you my TOP 2 mind-blowing discoveries that will inspire you and help boost your writing career!
So let’s dig in!
Country living and copywriting lesson #2: Put in one plant at a time! Ok – so I recently planted my vegetable garden – and man oh man that was some hard work!
My husband tilled the soil – and then he disappeared. It was now up to me to figure out what and where to plant stuff. And let me tell you this:

Looking at all that newly tilled earth – I felt OVERWHELMED!

What veggies should go next to each other? How many should I plant? Do I buy seeds or seedlings? When do I add fertilizer? How do I keep the deer and rabbits from eating up everything?
I started having heart palpations.
And then I decided to do what I often tell my copy cubs to do: Baby steps!
I took a deep breath and said – “just put one plant in the ground, Carline”.
So I looked around and dug up a hole for one tomato plant! Hooray! Then I took a break.
But then I thought, “hmmm… that tomato plant looks lonely – let me give him some brothers”.

So I planted another… and another… and another. Before I knew it – I planted 14 tomato plants!
Now – planting tomatoes started to get boring – so I moved on to green peppers… then onions… then cabbage… then brussels sprouts… and then potatoes!
Next thing I knew – 4 hours had passed and my patch of land was starting to look like a real garden!

Garden is now planted and ready to GROW!

Do you see my point CopyStar?

A big writing project can easily overwhelm you – and yes it happens to newbies as well as experienced writers!

The solution is to break down the project into smaller chunks. Just do ONE thing. Maybe it’s writing a headline.
Or tweaking testimonials.
Or creating the order form.
Just do ONE thing – and reward yourself for accomplishing the task.

Then do ONE more thing… and then another… and another… and…

… you get my point right, CopyStar?
Baby step your way to writing that killer copy!
And now for my final connection…
Country living and copywriting lesson #1: Be a likable neighbor!  Now I absolutely LOVE farmer’s markets and thrift stores! And when I go into town – I can find a bunch of them!
When I moved to our cabin – I decided I didn’t want to decorate it with any new stuff. I wanted rustic and used stuff to give my new home character and charm.
So the majority of my furnishings either came from stuff in my old house… Facebook Marketplace… thrift stores… yard sales… or farmer’s markets!
For example – I got a Bradington-Young leather recliner chair in excellent condition – that normally sells for $4,500 – for just $25 (after my 25% senior discount!) at a Goodwill. Woo hoo!

And that’s just one of the many gems I’ve found! I just gotta tell you…

This is the $4500 chair…
I got for 25 bucks!
I absolutely LOVE my place! And since I paid pennies on the dollar for my stuff – if it breaks – who cares?

So EVERY Saturday I would make it a point to be one of the first at our local farmer’s market in our nearby big city.

I went to every stand and introduced myself. Told folks I was new in town. Answered their questions as to why I decided to move out to the middle of nowhere (did I mention my town has a population of 151?)

I met kids… teenagers… young couples… old people… and their pets!

So it wasn’t long before I was walking around in town and hearing people yell out, “Hey Carline how ya doing?”

And I’d holla back “I’m good Mark – how’s Jackie doing today?” So it didn’t take long for me to feel at home! These folks starting telling me the best places to buy stuff… gave me tips for my garden… and helped me get around town.
Then I would tell them how they can ease their “Arthur-itis” with natural remedies and how I get my hair so curly (my hair is a BIG attention grabber in this neck of the woods!) So what’s the powerful copywriting lesson to learn here?

It’s called K-L-T. In other words Know-Like-Trust!

You’re writing to human beings CopyStar. And you know what that means?

We humans are comfortable doing business with folks we know…like… and trust!

So if you can establish K-L-T in your copy – you’ll be way ahead of the game!

Now what can you reveal in your copy to get your prospect to know and like you better?

Maybe you share a personal experience. For example…

How many of you said “You go girl!” after I told you about my thrift store chair amazing bargain?

You just felt a little closer to me, right?

You’re like, “hey – she’s just like me!”

That’s what you want to convey in your copy! When folks know and like you – then they will trust you’re looking out for them!

Their guard comes down and they listen to what you have to say!

So make sure to add personal stories that show you’re human and make mistakes or you just scored a great deal at the thrift store!

That’s it CopyStar! Now you’ve got my top 5 similarities between copywriting and country living! I hope these valuable lessons will boost your copywriting success!

Now – I gotta get back to my garden!

Yours for stellar results,
