A copywriting lesson from making cottage cheese

I’m on a real healthy eating kick right now.

So, I got up early Sunday morning and decided to take a stab at making homemade cottage cheese for a special high nutrient “muesli” dish.

I found a recipe and it looked simple enough. I even watched a video that convinced me that I could do it.

Just 2 ingredients: A gallon of 1% Organic milk and 6 oz of white vinegar.

Heat the milk but don’t burn it.

Gently stir in the vinegar. Turn off heat. Cover. And wait 30 minutes. Drain and Voila! Cottage cheese, right?

Well – not really.

After I waited the required 30 minutes – my mixture did NOT look anything like cottage cheese.

It just looked like milk with a few lumps in it.

I dunno what happened.

So I re-read the recipe. Couldn’t figure it out. Watched the video again. I kept asking “what did I do wrong?” but the video WOULD NOT respond to me!

Rude.

I almost trashed the whole concoction.

But then I thought, “Hey, let me call the Queen of Cottage Cheese – my cousin Sandy!”

She’s a pro. She can help me figure out where I screwed up.

So – I Face-Timed Sandy at 6:30am and showed her my mess.

And you know what she said?

Almost instantly?

“Oh… I see what you did wrong. You didn’t let your milk get hot enough. Just put it back on the heat and wait until you see a little steam coming up. Just a little. Then cover the mixture and wait another 30 minutes.”

And when I did that – guess what I got?

Cottage cheese!

See…
