Hiya CopyStar!

If you missed yesterday’s copywriting gold mine from canyoneering – do NOT read another worduntil you click here to catch up!
OK – so now I’m going to give you  3 MORE powerful copywriting lessons – you can start using immediately to boost your copywriting confidence and see RESULTS your clients will love!
Now let’s hit the ground running…
Copywriting lesson #3: Never underestimate the power of “special service”. Our guides Adam & Hector didn’t have to go the extra mile to take spectacular photos for us.
It wasn’t promised in the contract. And we didn’t expect it. But…
… they had the perfect opportunity to capture once-in-a-lifetime pix for us – and they did! And didn’t charge us extra for it!
But you better believe when I saw those awesome pix – I was more than willing to increase their tips!
So what can you do to provide special surprises for your customers CopyStar?
Maybe you could include a $20 gift certificate for their next purchase when they receive their first order?
Or what about adding a simple thank you card to show appreciation for their business?
Or how about a follow-up phone call to see if your customers are happy with their service?
You can always find a way to make your customers feel special – so do it!
Copywriting Lesson #2: Take a break – or at least a pause. Through the canyoneering experience – we took time to soak in our environment. Those were magnificent views I probably will never see again. During this break – our guides checked on us to see how we were feeling.
Were they going too fast for us? Did we want to continue? Any questions?
We also enjoyed those short breaks because it gave us time to take pictures… share our excitement… and catch our breath!

Soaking up the breathtaking views!
Top: This kid is walking on a canyon! Wow!
Bottom: Here’s just ONE of the many amazing views!

So what’s the copywriting lesson for you CopyStar?
Intentionally put breaks in your copy. How do you do that?
Add ellipses to slow down copy momentum so your reader can catch their breath! Add a few paragraphs to review what you’ve just discussed – so you don’t lose your reader.
And it’s ok to say: “Like I said before…” or “Let me emphasize again…” or even “Do you remember what I just said?” Why?
Because these are great ways to keep your copy conversational while you emphasize – and re-emphasize – key points you want your prospect to remember!
And now…
Copywriting lesson #1: Misteaks – I mean, mistakes happen! So probably one of the funniest moments of canyoneering was my first descent.
I was the last one in line. All I kept hearing the guides say was “sit on your butt so you can walk down the canyon”.
Obviously – none of the others in the group were following instructions! So when it was my turn – I was determined to sit on my butt! Well…
… I kinda OVER did it!
I sat on my butt alright – but I forgot to use my legs to walk down the canyon! And before anyone knew it…
… I literally flipped myself over and I almost karate-chopped our guide Adam in the head with my feet!

I also slammed into the canyon wall and scraped my arm!

I promise you – it really was a bad scrape! Bleeding and all…
Well my family just busted out laughing. They said it was the funniest thing they ever saw! But guess what?
Nobody took a video of it because they were laughing too hard!
So as far as I’m concerned – it never happened!
So what’s the copywriting lesson here CopyStar?
Well if you haven’t screwed up on your copy or email campaigns yet – you will!
Many times I’ve sent out the wrong email to you guys. And I can’t count the number of times I’ve had typos in my copy.
I remember back in my Phillips Publishing days – we sent out a magalog test that had 4 blank pages! (And that version beat the other tests!)
Here’s my point: Boo-boos happen! So waddaya do?
Own it or ignore it!
Yup – send out an “Oops we goofed” email to notify your prospects of the mistake – and then make it up to them however you can.
Maybe you extend the deadline. Or give $10 off the price. Or maybe you just say “I’m sorry”.
And if it’s not that big of a deal – don’t sweat it. Mistakes are just reminders that we’re human.
Hey – I’ve known copywriters who intentionally put typos in their copy. Me? I figure it will happen anyway – so I don’t go out of my way to show my imperfection!
But when and if it happens – in the words of Dory in “Finding Nemo” – just keep swimming!
Hey CopyStar – thanks for your personal stories in canyoneering! Really appreciate the feedback.  And YES – MORE ADVENTURES to come…
Yours for stellar results,
